It was a week when Habagat lashed its fury in the Philippines and had hard hit Manila with torrential rains and floods, ironically came in line also with a series of great concert line-ups of foreign artists that will make you choose between safety and madness of going just to watch your favorite band. Smart Araneta Coliseum featured bands – from Smashing Pumpkins (which I regretfully missed), Snow Patrol and the 80’s cult classic Tears for Fears with Per Sorensen of Fra Lippo Lippi.
Friday, August 10, we went to watch Tears for Fears. Sans my DSLR, I settled to borrow a Panasonic Lumix camera to get a few decent shots from the bleachers area.
Tears for Fears is composed of English rock duo – Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. They were also joined by an emerging artist Carina Round during the show.
Last time Tears for Fears held a concert here in Manila was in 2010. The coliseum was full-packed from bleachers to VIP. I think there is still a cult following of 80’s new wave music here in the Philippines. I was born in the 80’s and have to attribute this generation for its huge influence on my music preference.
During a break from one of the songs, Roland told how someone asked him how he was and what they were currently doing, he said – “Search Tears for Fears Live in Manila”.
